FAQ's

What is a charlie?

In the rabbit world a charlie is a rabbit that is born with less than 10 percent coloring. In rabbits you have solid and broken patterned rabbits. If you breed a broken rabbit to a broken rabbit then you might get a charlie in the litter. These are not showable and can only be raised as pets.

How long do French Lops live?

The average French Lop lives for about 4-5 years. But they can live as long as 7-9 years. If they are well taken of and healthy then they will live longer. If they are to over-weight or unhealthy then they will not live as long.

Are they good house pets?

Yes, they can be. They love to play with you and are really friendly. Does are normally better inside because they don't spray their pee, but bucks tend to be more friendly. If you do have them as house pets they do need a cage to stay in when unsupervised because they will eat electrical cords. If they are in the house they still need toys to stay happy when they are not out playing.

Do they bite?

All rabbits will bite if they are not treated correctly, feel frightened or are injured. Do not move quickly towards a rabbit's face or stick your finger near their mouth or they might bite you. If a rabbit feels like they are in danger they will bite. But with most French Lops are really nice and it takes a lot to make them bite.

What is your feed formula for French Lops?

I do a combination of many things to make up my French Lop feed. I purchase my feeds seperately and then mix them together on my own. I buy Mana Pro Sho rabbit pelleted feed which is an 18% feed, Mana Pro Gro rabbit pelleted feed which is a 16% feed, a protein supplement called Animax, black oil sunflower seeds, Cherrios, old fashioned oatmeal, and raisins. I then use a large sized scoop to mix it all together in a metal trash can. I mix three scoops of the 18% feed, two scoop of the 16%, 1/3 scoop of protein supplement, 1/3 scoop of black sunflower seeds, a 1/4 of a scoop of Cheerios, a 1/4 of a scoop of old fashioned oatmeal, and a handful of raisins.
